Up to 10 guests, aboard Frizby
Departure follows the sunset, so your time moves through the year. We confirm it the day before your trip.
The bay goes dark for about three days either side of a full moon. Those dates do not open for booking.
WHY THE WATER LIGHTS UP
The glow is alive. It comes from dinoflagellates, single-celled organisms that light up when the water around them moves. Millions of them in one stretch of water, and they only show in the dark.
Grand Cayman’s bay sits in the North Sound, sheltered, with almost no light coming off the shore. That combination is rare, and it is why this is one of only a handful of bio bays on earth.
You notice it first off the side of the boat. Then off your hand, off a paddle, off anything that disturbs the surface. Move faster and it gets brighter.
HOW THE NIGHT RUNS
Departure follows the sunset, so it shifts through the year. We confirm your exact time the day before, once we know how the light is falling.
You run out to the bay in the dark and the crew cuts the engine. Give your eyes a minute to adjust. Most people see it before that.
You can stay on board the whole time and still get the show. You can also get in the water, and that is the version people talk about afterward. You do not have to decide now.
Bring a towel and something warm for the ride back. Go easy on the camera expectations. It almost never photographs the way it looks.
